How to Build Confidence

In 2006 we published 5 keys to success in #18, #19, and #21 ezine. Then in 2007 we wrote a series of articles called, Positive Habits. You can find all of these listed in the SciFair Enthusiasts backissues, #23 - 29.

These articles were so popluar that we decided to start another series called, How to Build Your Confidence. So here we go...

Before we begin you may wonder, why confidence? Well, when you build a stronger you procrastination subsides or disappears and you are able to reach inside and discover your greatness. You are able to take action with confidence. You develop a positive attitude instead of being pessimistic. And research shows that a optomistic person does better in life than a pessimistic one.

Goal of this series: To let go of doubt about yourself and what you do. People who believe in themselves transmit that to others, and therefore others believe in their abilties which leads to successful outcomes.

Action for this week: Do a self-examination and determine your level of confidence in different areas of your life. If you are a parent or teacher reading this ezine, please take the time to do this first, with yourself, and then with your child/students.

Rate the following areas of your life on a scale from 1 - 10, ten being the most confident. Don't labor over your response, write down the first number that comes to your mind. This will be the foundation for the rest of confidence building strategies that will be presented and worked on in the next months to come.

• ____I attract others into my life who recharge my energy and are loyal to me.
• ____I am able to be myself no matter what others think of me or say about me.
• ____I feel free of doubt regardless of what is happening around me.
• ____I am able to stay positive in spite of adversity.
• ____I give freely to others without feeling fearful that they will take advantage of me.
• ____I lead and influence other towards positive action.
• ____I recover quickly from challenges.

Did you know that happiness is contagious? If you’re happy, you can thank your friends—and their friends. And their friends, too. Unlike what motivational people use to tell us, happiness is not lone journey.

When you think about it, this is not surprising. Remember the book, The Secret ? And the movie "What the Bleep Do We Know!?: Discovering the Endless Possibilities for Altering Your Everyday Reality "? Happiness is about quantum physics. It is an energy that exhudes from you and those that are on the same energy plan as you are attracted to your energy. Those that are not, are negative, will be repelled. Vice versa - if you are negative you repel happy people from your life and influence.

Scientists found after studying almost 5,000 people’s happiness over two decades, that when someone becomes happy, that has effects up to 3-relationships, or degrees away. That means that your happi­ess triggers a chain reac­ion that bene­its not only your friends, but your friends’ friends, and friends’ friends’ friends.

"Your emotion­l state may depend on the emotional exper­ences of people you don’t even know," said Harvard Medical School professor Nicholas Christakis, who, with James Fowler from the University of California, San Diego co-authored the study. “And the effect isn’t just fleeting.”

The findings were published online Dec. 4 in the British Medical Journal.
