A DREAM COME TRUE For the last 3 years we have wanted to open up a homeschool science store, but one that did not just sell stuff, but would give you science fair ideas and projects. Well, the dream has finally come true. On each page you will find homeschooling supplies and science fair project ideas that are for you homeschoolers as well as students who attend private and public school. IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION - Teachers if you have teams of students enter the contest then each member of the team will not win an iPod. What your team will win is a gift for the classroom. From the few registrations that we have received so far for the science fair contest I know that many of you have cold feet or are at a total loss when faced with the prospect of entering your project. And you probably think you will never be able to win, so why try going through the effort? OK, so you may have had an unsuccessful experience. Do you know how many failed experiments Edison had before he found a filament that would create lasting light for the light bulb? (I am not going to give you the answer. Look it up on the web). And so you have all this self-talk that tells you that you can't do it. Do you know what I call that? I bet you don't ..... "gossip between your ears"! Yes, you made it up. There is no truth to whatever you are telling yourself. You are living in a false truth. Did you ever hear of the acronym, F.E.A.R. It stand for False Evidence Appearing Real. Need I say more? Or maybe you are not interested in science. Well, what are your interests? Then ask yourself, "What is the science behind that?" Are you having a difficult time coming up with an idea? After you find out what science is behind your area of interest then make up a question. Turn that question into a hypothesis. You know what is so great about science fair projects is that you don't have to be right. In fact, there is no right or wrong. You just do the experiment and whatever happens, happens. So let's start seeing those applications pour in, OK?

NEUROSCIENCE COMES TO TELEVISION Curious is a 1-hour, 2-documentaries from Thirteen/WNET New York. The Curious Website shows numerous excerpts from the shows and interviews only available on the web. Both episodes discuss the nervous system. In the 1st episode discusses how researchers are creating an artificial retina and a patient who has received the new device. The 2nd episode shows how the brain makes decisions (neuroeconomics), split-brain research and robotics. The shows premiered on public television several weeks ago, and the full episodes will be available on the Curious Website in January, 2008.
