This summer I subscribed to a new magazine, Science Illustrated, and received my first issue a couple of days ago. To my surprise it has outstanding articles and amazing illustrations. Even the advertisements are interesting... to see all the new technology that is happening.
So I thought this month I would share with you some interesting facts that affect our lives from one of the articles,

The blue morpha butterflies get their bright coloring from ambient light. The distance between the scales on the wings determines which light wavelength is reflected back to our eyes. This results in irridescent blues and greens, depending on the angle of your eyes.
Using this natural ambient light, inventors use this same technology called interferometric modulator - MOD displays - for handheld devices such as cell phones. Do you like to invent things? What in nature inspires you?
Do you wear contact lenses? If so, then did you know that Australian red seaweed showed scientists how to inhibit the growth of bacterial biofilms on the surface of your lenses?
The seaweed is made up of a natural compound called furanones, which block the buildup of biofilms - layers that harbor bacteria and other microscopic life, on seaweed / on your lenses. What science fair project comes to mind when you read this?
I found the above subscription company and it is 10x's cheaper than Amazon.com Here the subscription is $40 for 12 issues ir $20 for 6 issues. Thought you would enjoy the savings!
The above projects are educational computer based projects with Snap Circuits. There are free project ideas on each page, students project manuals come with each kit, and a teacher's guide is available for purchase. These are great kits for science fair projects both home schooling, classrooms and individual projects and experiments.
When you subscribe to the blog in the form on the right, you will automatically receive a notice when 10 new science fair project ideas and experiments are posted. We post something at least once a week. Don't miss out!
We have a question and answer section. This is the only place where I will answer your questions, so post them in the blog.
