1. Science Fair Contest Winners
1. Well, reading your science fair projects was really fun! I really learned a lot. Thank you for all you entries. You can see your projects on the net (more about that later). For those of you who entered the Science Fair Contest I hope you liked the certificate and gifts that were sent to you. Please let me know because I want the next time to be even more extraordinary for you. 2. Keys to Success Alan, a Dad, emailed me and reminded me that I hadn't sent out the rest of the keys to success. So here they are: Preparation: Knowing where you can go starts with knowing where you are, and where you've been. Success isn't a matter of luck - it requires practice, study and strategy. Learn all you can about your passion. Master every last detail, and consider all the nuances and possibilities. Then don't hold back! (I am working a book right now and will send you that information when I email the new contest in June). William Brown Jr, Former Mayor of San Francisco: "The memory Training that I received in high school geometry equipped me in my world of law. " Courage: That courage which overcomes all fear is born of a healthy yet realistic self-regard that exceeds your own expectations. These achievers looked within themselves, and found there the mental and moral strength to pursue their dreams and prevail despite hardship, pain and mortal danger. Look at what Rosa Parks Pioneer of Civil Rights did to make a difference. Perseverance: No great achievement comes without obstacles; physical limitations, the beggaries of nature, or resistance from the outside world. Do you know the old saying, "Life happens when you are making plans?" When you read my personal story below, you will understand the meaning of this ancient Native American saying. Although achievers sometimes met with failure, they never abandoned their dreams, but doggedly persevered until they succeeded against all odds. J Carter Brown, Director Emeritus, National Gallery of Art: "It's rewarding that my former classmates fell I've 'Made it' after having been the class joke. The last 2 secrets to success will come in June. 3. Personal Story: I am going to reveal something really personal. It is the reason I send an apology to you for not sending out any Science Fair Enthusiasts newsletters for the last 6 months. http://www.super-science-fair-projects.com/science-fair-enthusiasts.html What you don't know this that this contest was very meaningful to me in many ways. Besides contributing the projects online so others can see and learn from them, this contest came at a good time for me personally. My mother was 83, not sick to our knowledge at all. She drove her car, went to concerts and plays, had fun with her lady friends. Her older sisters are still alive and alert, living full lives at 90 and 92. What a blessing. My mother came to visit me in October, stayed until November when we went to her home town in Florida for my nephew's wedding. While with me I noticed that she was not doing well at all and refused to see my doctor. After the wedding I insisted that she see her doctor because she didn't have the energy, vim and vigor that she always had. After a short hospitalization and many tests, the doctors could not find anything. She had a caretaker that she liked and I had now been in Florida for almost 3 weeks. I had to go home and pay my bills etc. My brother lives in Florida and together we made a decision after I was home a couple of days that she had to go back in for another test because she refused to do it as an outpatient. The plan was that I would stayed home a couple of more days and fly back to Chicago. Two days later something inside told me told me I better leave immediately. When I arrived she was on life support and by 4 AM the next day she went on to her next life. I have been mourning her leaving since then, December 3rd, and it has been very difficult for me to go back to work. She truly was a beautiful person and our family really misses her. 4. Free Science Fair Projects Site: Reading your science fair projects, sending out the rewards certificates and putting up the projects on a new site, www.free-science-fair-projects.net , has been a welcomed diversion. So I thank you because it has gotten me out of my slump. For those of you who have your project on the net, you can list that as one of your achievements when you apply to college. 5. Another contest will begin June 30, so watch for the announcement. I will be getting back on track within a month. Have a wonderful summer if you are on this side of the planet! If you are on the other side of the planet, keep warm.
