Chemistry science fair projects that explore advanced topics…

Students in AP Chemistry classes need to produce AP Chemistry science fair projects that are well above what the average chemistry student produces. Chemistry science fair projects that are fitting of an AP student need to at the very least, be at the level of their class curriculum. Topics that are covered in AP Chemistry class that can also be used as science fair projects include: Atomic Theory, chemical bonding, molecular models and the geometry of ions and molecules.

The first topic that can be used to develop AP Chemistry science fair projects is Atomic Theory. Atomic theory projects can deal with everything from isotopes to the relationship with entries on the periodic table. Some of the chemistry projects that you can perform include: Use chemicals to find the atomic mass of a molecule, use physical properties and tools to find the atomic mass of a molecule, explore periodic relationships by examining atomic radii of various molecules.

The next experiment category that you can work within is chemical bonding. This group of experiments is going to look at things like polarity of bonds and bonding forces. Experiments that you can perform include: create polarity bonds using electronegativities, and test different binding forces.

The third group of topics is molecular models. Models you can experiment with or explore include: Lewis Structures, VSEPR and Valance Bond. Project derived from this group of sub-topics can focus on computer graphics that illustrate the molecular models or they can focus on testing the strength and structural details of various molecular models.

The fourth group of topics that you can explore is the geometry of ions and molecules. Again computer graphing and illustrations are going to be a big part of projects developed in this category. An experiment you could complete is testing the strengths and weaknesses of various shaped molecules, or explore how molecule shape impacts the reactivity of the molecule.

AP Chemistry science fair projects need to be creative, innovative and intelligently designed. Compared to the average Chemistry science fair projects, AP science fair projects need to demonstrate near college level work.
