Science Experiments for Young Astronomers

Astronomy science fair projects - high school level, can have several different foci. They can explore optics, solar energy, the physical properties of the universe, the chemical composition of the universe or they can even be based on observations made in the universe. Because space is truly the final frontier for exploration, this science experiment focus can help students to prepare themselves for a lucrative academic and/or professional career. However, in order to stand out from the other young scientists, they first need to find a great idea for their science fair project.

The first focus that astronomy science fair projects, high school level, can have is solar energy. Since the sun is one of the most visible elements in our own galaxy, it is the easiest star to study. After all, we benefit from and depend on the energy produced by the sun. There are several different solar energy experiments that can be done by high school students. For example, the intensity of the sun's energy at various points on the Earth's surface can be examined, the viability of solar energy in the student's community can be explored or the student can simply experiment with the design of solar energy panels.

Another focus that astronomy science fair projects, high school level, can have is optics. Optics have always intrigued science fair participants, and today's high school students are no exceptions. There are a lot of different types of experiments that you can work when putting together science experiments that deal with optics. For example, you can explore the properties of light, you can examine the spectrum of light, you can experiment with lasers and you can even experiments with the properties of colors.

The third focus your astronomy experiments can have is physics. The physical properties of the universe are very intriguing for students, scientists, artists and science fiction writers. Physics experiments can be as simple as exploring the properties of gravity, to as advanced as working with advanced formulas to explain black holes.

The fourth field of study within astronomy that you can work in is observational astronomy. If you have access to a telescope, a personal one or a professional one, then you can create a science fair experiment that is based on consecutive observations that you make. For example, you can track constellations across the sky over several months, you can chart the stellar bodies in your sky or you can strive to locate a star or stellar body that has yet to be discovered. While this segment of experiments may sound like the easiest, they may actually take the most work because they require extensive research and periods of direct observation.

Preparing to win a science fair is a lot different than preparing just to participate in one. If you want to create winning science fair projects you need to know where you can get the best resources to infuse your and astronomy for kids experiments with raw data, the latest information on your topic and the most innovative ideas for astronomy science fair projects high school.
