Astronomy science fair projects, middle school level, can be just as innovative and technically challenging as those prepared by high school students. However, before experimenting with advanced astronomy concepts, it is important for kids to work with basic level middle school experiments. After these concepts and basic projects have been mastered, the students can then move on to more advanced science experiments.

Traditionally, middle school experiments in the field of astronomy have focused on the mechanics and composition of our solar system. Solar system models are a staple for many middle school science fairs. However, if a student wants to work with this common astronomy science fair projects, middle school level, then they will need to jazz it up a bit. For example, they can create a model to scale, they can mechanize it so that each planet orbits the sun and the moons orbit their respective planets.

Another popular genre for astronomy science fair projects, middle school level, is basic optics. Optics science fair projects can include a variety of optical concepts such as the spectrum of light, bending light, prisms and lasers. Experiments that work with these concepts can include things like: how to build a laser, how to bend light and how to use light to do work.

Another element of astronomy that students in middle school can easily experiment with is gravity. Students can explore the properties of gravity by charting the variations of gravity based on altitude, mass of an item and velocity. They can also experiment with the force of gravity of various shaped objects. Acceleration and G-forces can also be explored in gravity science fair projects.

The fourth area that middle school students can work in when designing an astronomy themed science fair project is science fiction. While they may not have the technical understanding of many science concepts explored in science fiction, such as black holes and time warps, they may be able to examine the science concepts that were once thought of as only science fiction. They can then use these science innovations inspired by science fiction to predict which science fiction concept will be next to be proven true.

Astronomy science fair projects - middle school, level do not have to be remedial or basic. However, to generate the best results, students need to build their projects steps by step from easiest concept to the most advanced concept. This process will ensure that astronomy for kids for middle school level, will be judged well.
