There are two science fair kits that I highly recommend because they come with raw materials and have proven at helping students to win or receive honors at science fairs. In no particular order.....

There are six little steps to award winning science projects. Follow these to the prize: -The Topic Choice--think about things you REALLY like
-The Project Procedure--make sure you follow all the steps
-Discovering the Answers--record your data, note the research, test, test and test
-The Display--polish your information to a high gloss shine
-The Science Fair and its Judges--Action! You're up!

I can't say enough about the importance of choosing the right topic for your science project. No matter what grade level, whether simple or difficult, the topic must be something of interest. Most projects will take several weeks, even months to complete. The subject must be something that you'll not get tired of conducting, something that you won't get sick of looking at, or testing. If you choose an area that you want to explore, that you want to learn something about, your energy and enthusiasm will shine through.

When it comes time to actually do the project, make sure you have a good idea of what it is you want to know--a solid hypothesis/question. Develop a plan of action. Decide how many experiments or tests will need to be conducted and give yourself plenty of time. Ask questions of yourself, your teacher, your parents, and even other students. Search and research and record everything along the way. Stay focused on the question and again, give yourself lots of time to find the answers.

Conducting the experiments is fun, but when you discover the answers to your questions science becomes the coolest thing in the world. Don't worry if the answer isn't exactly what you thought it would be or if the answer doesn't come right away--it may take several tests to get where you want to be. This is why an interesting topic and time is very important. If everything isn't going perfectly, consider alternatives, ask more questions, do more research until you reach the conclusion successfully.

When it's time to display your results, be clear and concise and present your awesome super science fair projects in a logical yet exciting manner. Use graphs, pictures and models. Make it stand out. Make it noticeable. If you've documented all your ideas and experiments, then it will be easier to compile. Besides the physical display, there is a written report that accompanies it and this too must be clear and presentable, typed and spell checked and in a neat binder.

You've made it! You've chosen a topic that excited you; you've completed the scientific method process and discovered the answers to your questions. You've designed a colorful and eye-catching display and now it's all set up at the science fair. Relax! Enjoy! Talk to the judges about the fun and the troubles of the project. Point out all your steps and the process used. Present it in an energetic and professional manner and you're set with an award-winning project. Congratulations!
