Solar Cars
Background Information

A solar vehicle is an electric vehicle powered by solar energy. The power is generated from the solar panel(s) that are on the surface (usually the top) of the vehicle. Photovoltaic (PV) cells convert the sun's energy directly into electrical energy.

PVs are arrays of cells containing a solar photovoltaic material that converts solar radiation into direct current (DC) electricity. DC is produced by sources such as batteries, commutator-type electric machines of the dynamo type, solar cells, and thermocouples.

A dynamo means a generator that produces DC with the use of a commutator (electrical switch).

Solar Power Racer Car
$16.95add_to_cart.gif

  • Build a motorized DIY (do it yourself) science fair project by using power from a solar cell.
  • Learn how automotive transmissions and motors work.
  • Includes gears, metal body, motor, shafts, solar cell.
  • Easy to follow instructions
  • Solar or battery operated.

  • You will need some sun to run the car with the solar cell.
  • Not included:
. Battery not required but if you use one: 1-AAA battery.
    . Bracket to attach battery
. Directions on how attach a bracket
. Directions on how to connect battery to solar panel
  • Science Fair Project Idea
Insert different color lights into a desk lamp and see which light will power the solar panel the most. You can determine the outcome by seeing which light makes the car travel the furthest distance.
Contributed by a 12 yr old student

    Note: The kit comes unassembled.
