A really bad science fair project can be found around every corner at most science fairs. These projects are considered bad because of many reasons. Some were thrown together at the last minute, some lack focus and some simply were done at a level below what is expected for the entrant's age group. If you are entering a science fair this year and you don't want to waste your time on bad science fair projects, learn these lessons. The first mistake that can turn your project into a really bad science fair project is if you start out with a bad idea. Bad ideas for science fair projects are generally either too generic or they have all ready been done to death. The easiest way to avoid this project flaw is to spend some time developing a project idea that is related to current news events, that can be developed thoroughly into a great experiment and that is interesting and unique. Super biochemistry science fair projects can quickly turn bad is the experiment is not set up properly. Most experiments that go wrong do so because they are not focused enough on what the hypothesis is looking for. For example, if you are trying to discover if a certain deodorant neutralizes a person's pH you wouldn't want to design an experiment that looks at how deodorant affects sweating. Instead you would want to design an experiment that only looks at how a person's pH level changes after they apply the deodorant. Another problem that biochemistry science fair projects can have is that they have bad science fair boards. The display board is what the judges are going to look at to understand your project. This is the primary resource that they use to determine how good or bad your project is. Science fair boards go bad when they are not laid out properly, or when they are missing important elements. To turn your bad science board around you will want to plan the layout of your display board, use layout tools and tips to make sure the lettering is uniform and even, you will want to include graphics that illustrate your data and you will want to include just enough text to fully explain each step you took to plan and execute your project. A bad presentation can also lead to a bad science fair project. Bad presentations usually are caused by a lack of preparation. To solve this problem all you have to do is practice your presentation in front of an audience or in front of a mirror. Make sure you make proper eye contact with each judge, make sure you speak loudly and clearly and make sure you make references to your poster when appropriate. Super bad experiments come in all shapes and sizes. There are lots of places where your project can go wrong. However, you can easily turn a bad project around once you identify that you have crossed over to the dark side. Simply take a step back, remember the tips listed above and revamped your project. You will be surprised at how easy it can be to turn a bad project into a super science fair project. ![]() Copyright © 2003 - 2008 Super Science Fair Projects - All Rights Reserved.
