Genetic engineering is a big ticket science concept that is changing the way we deal with diseases and food production. While a very complex subject, there are easy school experiments in genetic engineering that will allow you to explore this topic without expensive equipment or a Ph D. However, you will need some basic equipment and supplies including DNA, a microscope and a variety of restriction and splicing enzymes.

Biotechnology science projects deal with very complex terminology and science concepts. It is a good idea to learn the basic terminology used for genetic engineering before you start working on your projects. You will also benefit from learning about the processes involved in genetic engineering and the applications of genetic engineering.

The first option that you have for easy school experiments in genetic engineering is to explore cutting DNA strands. These experiments will use restriction enzymes to cut DNA strands and separate out specific segments. After separating out your DNA segments you can see how the removal of parts of a DNA sequence impacts its ability to replicate.

Another fun option that you have for easy scool experiments in genetic engineering is use data contained in the Human Genome Project. Some of the experiments you can conduct include identifying DNA sequences that are related to specific syndromes and diseases. You can then compare the disease sequences to a normal sequence to see what changes occurred to cause the disease. Finally, try to explain how the changes occurred and what the change causes the body to do.

If you are interested in designing medicine-health science fair projects that deal with genetic engineering, then you will want to focus more on the application of genetic engineering to identify causes of diseases and to treat the diseases. These projects will be a little more advanced than the above projects, however, they can still be manageable. For example, you can put together a biotechnology science project that uses existing data on how genetic engineering techniques can be used to treat genetic diseases.

No matter what subject you select for your science fair project it is important that you provide yourself with enough time to produce a quality project. This means scheduling time to work on your project for several weeks, instead of waiting to the last minute to throw something together. Even projects that rely on information and data found in existing databases will require a couple of weeks to gather and analyze data and then put together a nice looking display and well written report.
