Science fair projects with sunflowers seeds are easy to do because you can find sunflower seed in nearly all pet, home improvement and grocery stores. In this article we will be covering five sample botany science experiments that you can complete. Each project will include a brief step by step guide to science fair projects.

The first option that you have for your science fair projects with sunflower seeds is to simply learn about the part of a seed. This experiment is a great starter project for young kids. In this experiment you will dissect a seed and identify the various parts including the shell, endosperm, etc.

The second option that you have for your science fair projects with sunflower seeds is to explore the process of seed germination. This is another simple biology science fair projects. To complete this project you will need a paper cup, sunflower seeds, soil, water and sunlight. Plant your seed, water it and watch it sprout. Make notes about what the sunflower plant looks like as it first emerges from the seed. What do you notice about its appearance.

The third option that you have for your botany science experiments is to learn about how seeds develop. In this experiment you will want to watch your sunflower plant develop from seed to mature plant. As the sunflower develops a head, notice how the interior of the flower develops clove like sprouts that eventually fall off and reveal the immature sunflower seeds. Observe the plant as the seeds develop. Note how long it takes for the plant to go from seed to mature plant with mature sunflower seeds. What does this tell you about the process of seed development and plant reproduction.

The fourth experiment that you can complete will look at the amount of energy that can be extracted from a single sunflower seed. To complete this experiment you will need to examine its calorie count. You can also use a burner and a thermal measuring device to determine how many thermal units are produced by burning a sunflower seed.

The final experiment that you can complete will explore the reproductive strategies of plants. In these experiments you will examine how sunflowers create tasty seeds that animals are attracted to. Determine how many seeds are consumed and how many are spread by being dropped or buried by animals. Is this an efficient way to reproduce and spread the plant's seeds? Why or why not?
