Electrolysis science fair projects can be used to study a number of science concepts. However, this article will look at example intermediate chemistry science projects and experiments that explore how electrolysis can be applied to environmental issues. If you are ready to develop the greatest science fair projects of your life, then try out some of these sample projects.

The first electrolysis science fair projects that you can complete will deal with the basics. Your first experiment option is to determine if and/or how ph levels will affect the process of electrolysis. This is a first tier project that you can expand on later, after you have drawn your conclusions.

The second electrolysis science fair projects that you can work on relates to its application to fresh water recycling. In these environmental experiments science fair projects you will explore how electrolysis can be used to clean fresh water that has been contaminated with sewage or other contaminants. This is an excellent project that has real value. This project also has the potential to be expanded on and applied to local water shed research projects.

The third project idea that you can work with is to see what factors add to the ability of electrolysis to separate out hydrogen from water. For example, you can test if adding extra salt to water will help the process of electrolysis to extract more hydrogen from the test water. You can also experiment with the amount of voltage used during electrolysis to see if that impacts how much hydrogen can be harvested from water. This project can be expanded or used as part of an alternative fuel project for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

The fourth project idea that you can complete is to see if solar energy can be used to power an electrolysis system that removes hydrogen from water. This is one way that you can expand upon the above sample science fair project. You can also develop a solar power project that heats up the water during electrolysis to see if that has any impact on the speed of the hydrogen extraction or the amount of hydrogen that is harvested.

To ensure that your electrolysis project is given the highest score possible, you need to create a stellar presentation. For this type of project you may want to include a physical demonstration of the process of electrolysis, especially if you are experimenting with cleaning water using electrolysis. You can even get the judges involved in the demonstration. Finally, remember to produce high quality graphics. Nothing is more damaging to the value of your display than visual components that are hard to see, too small or messy.
