Try this cheap and easy chemisty science experiment...
Today many schools are trying to find new, exciting and affordable ways to get their students excited about science. One way that schools can get kids to activity participate in science experiments is to develop a school wide project. Below is information on how your school can set up and complete a melting ice school science project any time of the year. A melting ice school science project can be conducted at any time of the year. In the winter you can use the ice on the playground as the test subject, while in the warmer months you can experiment with ice cubes. The first step for putting together you school wide chemistry science experiment is to determine who will be participating and when you will execute the experiment. The next step is to determine what type of melting ice school science project to complete. As mentioned above the time of year you try this experiment is going to impact what ice you use, natural ice or manmade ice. However, there are alot more variables that you will need to work out when designing your ice melting experiment such as what will be used to melt the ice, what type of ice you will use and what the objective of the experiment will be. After you have chemistry science fair projects in mind, you can modify the experiment so that each grade level can get something different out of the school project. For example, classes that are learning about the properties of matter can conduct the experiment to see what conditions need to be present in order for water to change physical states, while classes studying heat can measure the temperature changes of the ice's surface and interior as chemicals, salt or sunlight are added to the experiment to melt the ice. Once the experiment has been completed you will want each student, or each group of students to write up a report on the experiment. This process will accomplish several things. First of all it will help them develop report writing skills, critical thinking skills and problem skills, as well as provide you with insights into what was learned. This information can then be used to report back to parents during PTA meetings or parent teacher conferences. It can also be used to justify the continuation of the project next year. To help promote the project and to show students everything that they learned from the project, a large display can be created in a visible school location that features excerpts from student reports. This display can be a great addition to an open house night or parent's night program. It can also be a great display to put up before kids leave for their winter break, spring break or summer break.
