Chemistry experiments utilize enzymes to create interesting reactions...
Science fair projects and enzymes go hand in hand. If you enjoy chemistry experiments then enzymes make a great topic of your science fair projects. Fortunately, enzymes can be used to develop easy science fair projects or advanced science fair projects. This means you can develop a project that is right for you. Below are a few ideas that you can use to get the ball rolling. Oxygen increases the reaction rate created by catalase. This is a very specific hypothesis that you will need to test with science fair projects and enzymes. To set up your experiment you will first want to find a way to add specific amounts of oxygen to your chemical reaction. You will then provide each chemical reaction a different amount of oxygen. Remember to have one experiment with 100 percent oxygen and one experiment with 0 percent oxygen. Anylase reacts with starches. To test this hypothesis you will need to use science fair projects and enzymes. To start with you will want to select an basic starch to work with. You will then want to set up a variety of experiments. In each experiment you will expose the starch to a different amount of anylase. What happens as you add more anylase? Can you add too much anylase? If yes, what happens when the experiment is over saturated with this enzyme? Create an invert sugar using invertase. An invert sugar is an interesting chemical compound that is created by exposing table sugar to the enzyme invertase. Create this new form of sugar. Now explain how you did it and what makes the invert sugar different from regular sugar. Use your findings to propose a new hypothesis. Design your experiment and test it. How does a lactase pill help people who are lactose intolerant eat dairy products? This is a very valuable hypothesis to test with biochemistry science fair projects. You may want to start by first finding out why people with a lactose sensitivity or allergy can't tolerate lactose. Then learn how the enzyme lactase helps their bodies digest lactose. What happens when you mix together hydrogen peroxide and catalase? This is a fun and easy science fair project that you can complete in less than an hour. However, you will want to conduct the experiment somewhere that you can clean easily and you will want to avoid getting the solution on your clothing or skin. For this experiment you will want to start with hydrogen peroxide solution that you can find at any department, drug or grocery store. Then add in catalase and step back. What happens? You can turn this experiment into a more advanced project by setting up several experiments and dosing the hydrogen peroxides with different amounts of catalase.
