Water testing kit science fair projects can help you to develop award winning science fair projects. While simply using a kit to test water will not be enough to win a science fair, if you develop an interesting hypothesis that looks at the results from the test you may be able to wow the judges with your ingenuity. The key to winning a science fair with chemistry science fair experiments is to make them topical to modern concerns or problems.

When you test your water's pH level it is also important to test the bacteria levels and what kind of bacteria is in the water. A normal water sample should have a pH level around 7, so if you find a sample with a pH level higher than 7 then it is considered to be acidic and if it is lower than 7 then it is considered to be basic. Create a hypothesis to explain the implications of an abnormal pH level. For example, "pond water with a pH level over 7 will kill off amphibian life."

In addition to testing for pH levels, water testing kit science fair projects can examine a water sample's lead content. In these projects you will be testing to see if a water sample contains the hazardous heavy metal lead. A sample hypothesis for this type of experiment is "Water that contains high concentrations of lead will lead to serious health problems in the local human populations." After you write your hypothesis make sure you define any general terms. For example, in this hypothesis you used the term "high concentrations of lead." This term will need to be defined before you can analyze your data. This means that you will need to set a limit for what constitutes a "high concentration."

Chemical water tests can also be used to determine how healthy or safe a local water supply is. For example, you can use a water testing kit to develop chemistry science fair projects that examine how the presence of certain chemicals in local water supplies affects local wildlife or ecosystems. One hypothesis that you can use for this type of project is "the presence of antifreeze in local water supplies can lead to birth defects of local wildlife.

If you are interested in creating the ultimate science fair projects then consider developing a microbiology water experiment. In this experiment you will look at the organism count in your water sample. Your hypothesis for this experiment can be "biodiversity of microscopic water organisms reflects the health of a marshland ecosystem." To test this hypothesis you will take water samples from several different marshland water sources and conduct an organism count. You will then compare these results to a physical species count of larger animal and plant species in the ecosystems. Is there a relationship between the two biodiversity counts? What does this tell you?

The final option that you have for water testing science fair projects is to use a water testing kit to examine the purity of your drinking water. In this experiment you will want to examine the cleanliness of several drinking water sources, such as bottled water, spring water, water from various drinking fountains, water from a bathroom faucet and water from an outdoor hose faucet. Your hypothesis will need to be a prediction of what you will discover, such as bottled water will be cleaner/purer than water that comes from a water fountain.
