This article is going to cover five computer science fair project examples. These examples are projects that will warm you up, and provide you with topic ideas for your own computer science experiments. The projects that will be introduced here look at voice analysis software, EVPs, computer speed, CDs and programming.

Image of Elenco CI-73 Computer Interface for Snap CircuitsTwo engineers started a company, Elenco, and designed Snap Circuits which an an electronics educational training program. It shows students how to trouble shoot problems that are occurring in circuits. You can also create your own electronic scifair projects.

SC series - 750, 500, 300 and 100 teaches the concepts of electronics for 8 year old kids and above.

Explore electricity and circuits safely with the wireless science fair projects.

The SC-500S includes electricity - electronics science fair projects ideas and experiments.

The SC-300S, step-by-step, helps you to do science fair projects with electronics and electricity.

And foundation of the program, the SC-100R, introduces you to children electricity science fair projects ideas and experiments.

The computer interface program , CI-73 gives you the opportunity to upgrade your Elenco kits for computer hardware science fair projects.

The first project from this list of computer science fair project examples looks at voice analysis software. This experiment will use sound editing software to explore the characteristics of voices. Your job will be to determine what physical traits are common for female voice sound waves and what traits are common for male voice sound waves. What similarities do they have?

The second proejct from this list of computer science fair project examples looks at the EVP, electronic voice phenomenon. This is a term used to describe the supposed capturing of disembodied voices on a tape recorder. Using a digital recorder and sound editing software analyze EVPs that you find online to evaluate their authenticity. Conduct background research on how the brain processes sound to determine if EVPs are a figment of our imaginations or authentic phenomenon.

The third option that you have for computer science fair experiments is to determine how much data is burned onto a CD or DVD using a light. In this experiment all you have to do is see how many rings are burned onto your disc to determine how much space is used. Try to come up with a formula to determine how much space is used by comparing the thickness of the burn rings on the disc to what your computer says the used disc space is.

The fourth option that you have for easy quick science fair projects with computers is to compare computer speed using a physical time test. For this experiment you will need two computers with varying speeds. Next you will set up an experiment to see how long it takes each computer to (1) boot up, (2) defragment and (3) install a program on its hard drive. Use the time differences to determine the speed difference to processor speed ratio. Try to explain what makes the faster model faster.

The final example project is to use a time applet to test the speed of different computers. These applets can be downloaded free of charge from the Internet. After you complete this experiment you can compare the results to what you learned in the last experiment. You can also use the time applet to test two different computers with supposed same drive speeds. If you find a time difference, what is causing the difference and can you think of ways to increase the speed of the slower computer?
