Create your own earth science experiments...
Geology rocks science fair projects are a great alternative to the same old electronic or biology science fair topics that most students complete. These experiments can look at a variety of topics. Some of the topics that your earth science experiments can cover include the biogeochemical cycle, fossils, crystals, fulgurites and meteorites.
Life on Earth relies on the biogeochemical cycle. This is the system of material and resource recycling that the Earth naturally does. The first geology rocks science fair projects that you can complete will explore this cycle. The purpose of these projects is to understand the importance of this cycle and to explain how it works. Another option that you have for geology rocks science fair projects is to explore fossils and fossilization. There are several different fossil projects that you can work on. The first project will simply look at how fossilization occurs. If you are interested in a more advanced project then you can explore the local fossil beds in your area and use the samples you collect to help rebuild your area's prehistoric environment. Your third option is to do a weather erosion depostition science fair project.
A 4th option is to experiment with crystals. A basic project will be to simply look at the structure of various types of crystals. More advanced crystal projects will have you grow your own crystals using various solutions. If you live near a sandy area then you can experiment with fulgurites. Fulgurites are glass formations caused by lightning striking sand. The heat from the lightning superheats the sand and melts it creating natural glass. You can find natural fulgarites or you can insert a metal rod into sand and attract a lightning strike. If you don't live near sand you can also buy fulgarite samples to work with. If you are looking for easy to do science fair projects then consider working with meteorites. Meteorite experiments can be as simple as exploring what they are, what they are made up of and what they tell us about the Earth. They can also be more advanced. For example, you can search for your own meteorites or analyze the mineral makeup of meteorites. Copyright © 2003 - 2010 Super Science Fair Projects - All Rights Reserved.
