Stormy earth science experiments for kids and young scientists...
Science fair projects on lightning can really give you a charge. Most students who develop lightning projects are going to rely on basic earth science experiments and topics. If you want to create unusual science fair projects then you will want to find unique angles for your projects to take. Below are some examples of what I mean.
Does every strike of lightning produce thunder? This is another hypothesis question that you can develop interesting earth science experiments around. To create a viable experiment for this hypothesis you will need to conduct background research. You will also need to do field research. Since thunder and lightning usually only occur when it is hot outside, you may need to wait until late spring to complete this project. Can lightning strike during the winter? What a great question. To test this hypothesis question you will need to first determine if temperature impacts the production of lightning. You will also need to look at what atmospheric conditions are required to produce lightning. Then determine if these conditions an develop during the winter months. Location on the planet and the elevation of the person may also impact if they experience lightning storms in the winter. Will lightning strike in the same spot twice? Many people think that lightning will never strike the same spot twice, but is this old wives tale true? To test the hypothesis that lightning doesn't strike the same spot twice you have two options. You can evaluate data collected on lightning strikes in nature, or you can introduce a lightning rod to an environment to see if it will be struck more than once by lightning. What does this tell you about lightning and how can this information be used to keep people and animals safe during a lightning storm? Lightning is always white in color. To test this hypothesis you will need to first determine the light frequency of lightning, and then determine how colored light is produced. If lightning is always white in color what does this mean? Explain what white light is and how it is related to the light spectrum and the amount of energy and heat generated by the light source. Can the energy produced by lightning be harnessed to help solve the current energy shortage problem? Copyright © 2003 - 2010 Super Science Fair Projects - All Rights Reserved.
