Does heat impact the rate of soil erosion? Soil erosion science fair projects can be designed to answer this hypothesis questions. To test this hypothesis you will need to set up a test site. This test site can be a natural site or it can be a model site. You will then manipulate the temperatures your tests are exposed to. Then document what happens.
Does the presence of trees slow down the rate of soil erosion? This is another hypothesis that can be tested with soil erosion science fair projects. For this project the independent variable will be the amount of trees present and the dependent variable will be the rate of soil erosion. For your control experiment you will use a test site that has no vegetation. You can advance this project by looking at how the type of tree in the area impacts the rate of soil erosion.
Does water impact the rate of erosion. This is an experiment that will require you to take a close look at the relationship between the water cycle and soil erosion. For this experiment you have a couple of options. Your first option is to simply observe various areas and note how the presence of water impacts the rate of erosion. You can also set up a model so that you can test various water exposure amounts to see how they affect the rate of soil erosion.
Does seismic activity increase the rate of erosion. This is an important hypothesis that a lot of scientists would be interesting in learning more about. For this experiment you will need to find a way to introduce simulated seismic activity to your model to test if it affects the rate of soil erosion. For this experiment the independent variable will be the intensity of the seismic activity and the dependent variable will be the rate of erosion.
The final hypothesis that you can test is that the type of rocks in an area impacts its rate of soil erosion. This hypothesis will require geology rocks science fair projects to test it. For this experiment your independent variable will be the type and size of rocks in the system and the dependent variable will be the rate of erosion. You can advance this project by expanding the number of sites you take samples from, or by conducting more extensive background research.
