Air Conditioning Tips
- When you are away from home or work, if you have a thermostat on your air conditioning unit, then set it to 85°.When home, set to 76°-78°, health permitting.
If you do not have heat related health challenges or pets, then turn off your air conditioner when not at home.
- Use portable fans to circulate and cool the air.
When possible purchase air conditioning units with thermostat controls and programmable timers.
- Use blinds and shades during the day, to keep the heat out. Open windows and shades during the evening when it's cooler and turn off your air conditioner if you don’t use it for health reasons.
- Turn off lights, TVs and computers when they are not being used. They make air conditioning work harder!
Do not place furniture, lamps or TV sets near your air conditioning thermostat.
- Clean or replace air conditioner filters regularly.
- If you see a crack in the seal of your windows or patio doors, ask maintenance to seal them.
- If you need to replace your unit, consider purchasing an ENERGY STAR® air conditioning unit.
- When running your air conditioner, do not open your windows or patio door.
