  1. Unplug coffee machines when not in use and use small appliances for small tasks, such as a toaster or toaster oven instead of an oven.
  2. Make sure the seals in the oven fit properly.
  3. Keep lids on pots when cooking. While baking, do not open the oven; consider using the light instead if you have a window in your oven door.
  4. Keep microwaves and ovens clean and well maintained to work most efficiently.
  5. Unplug all appliances from the wall socket (except refrigerator and oven) when not in use because when plugged in they still use electricity.
  6. Close the refrigerator door when pouring a beverage or separating food from a package. This saves energy and helps your food to not spoil as quickly.
  7. In the winter months, if you used your oven, after you finish baking, turn off the oven and open the oven door. This will cause your heating unit to not work so hard because you are putting heat from the oven into your house.
  8. Caution: Do not use your oven as a heater.
