Electronics Energy Conservation Tips
Look around your home, school and workplace. See all the items with a digital display, remote control or AC adapter. They all draw power when not in use. Most homes have 40 + devices. This counts for 75% of the electricity used by home electronics and 8% of total residential use.
Did you know that can power your residence for one month?
- One thing that I did not realize is that electrical current runs thru your cord even when you turn off a appliance / device. So make it a habit to unplug your small appliances from the wall when not in use.
~ Remember your cell phone chargers. Pull the plug out of the wall when not in use.
~ Pull the plug to your surge protector out of the wall when not in use.
- Studies show that when you use rechargeable batteries for products like cordless phones and PDAs, it is more cost effective than throwaway batteries. If you must use throwaways, check with your trash removal company about safe disposal options. Many large cities have a place where you can drop off your old batteries for recycling.
- Misconception: screen savers reduce energy use by monitors. Manually turning off your monitors or by using automatic switching to sleep mode is great energy-saving strategy.
- Think about purchasing a laptop for your next computer. They use much less energy than desktop computers.
