NOTE
  • This science fair project is for those of you who wash clothes throughout the week.

  • Your utility bills are being used to measure your energy consumption.

Hypothesis
Washing your clothes one day a week saves electrical and water energy as measured by monthly utility bills.

Materials Needed

  • One week of dirty laundry

  • Laundry soap

  • Washing machine

  • Electric or gas dryer

  • One month of each of the following utility bills: Water, electric, gas. If you do not use a gas dryer then you will not need this utility bill.
  • Procedure

    1. Wash clothes once a week for 4 weeks.

    2. Compare the utility bills from the previous month and see if there is a difference.

P.S.: Make sure that your the use of your utilties are about the same for the rest of the household. For instance, don't compare a month's use of utilities where you watered your lawn to a month when you did not. Also, the rates on the bills must be the same for each month.
