Engineering experiments that are strong contenders for first place awards...
Science fair projects on structure can look at more than just buildings and bridges. Engineering experiments can be applied to nearly everything that is built. For example you can develop projects that look at furniture structure, building structures, bridge structure, car structures and even the structure for sewers. If you are interested in exploring the field of engineering then here is your chance to do it. Below you will find a few ideas for basic projects you can expand upon.
Furniture structure is the first topic your science fair projects on structure can have. These proejcts will need to focus on a specific challenge or design problem. For example, you may want to modify a chair's design so that it can accommodate a person who weighs over 500 pounds. What modifications would be needed? You know that you will need to adjust the width of the seat as well as the support structures under the chair. What other modifications will be needed? Bridge structure is a very popular topic for science fair projects on structure. Bridge structure projects can focus on spanning a certain distance, withstanding high winds, withstanding earthquakes or handling large volumes of traffic. Select a problem and then design your bridge structure. To avoid working on a hypothesis that someone else has already covered, research what bridge experiments have all ready been used at your local science fair. Building structure is another topic that you can cover with engineering based science projects. Since these are very common science fair projects you will need to make sure you develop a unique hypothesis to work with. For example, test the strength of the buildings found in the nursery rhyme about the three little pigs. Examine the load limits and how much wind each structure can stand up against. You will need to test a house made from sticks, a house made from straw and a house made from bricks. Was the nursery rhyme correct? The fourth topic that you can cover in your structure project is car structure. For this project genre you will want to focus on a specific aspect of a car's structure. For example, you can experiment with the breaking system, the lighting system, the sound system or the safety equipment. If you are looking for an interesting hypothesis to test try this one: can a car's structure be modified to increase its gas mileage? If you can find a positive answer to this question you could position yourself to win your local science fair. The main purpose of conducting scientific research is to learn more about a specific science topic. However, it is also nice to get recognized for your efforts. If you are interested winning a science fair then you will need to put in the extra time to create an interesting, innovative and insightful project. Remember to think outside of the box, to be creative and to ask tough questions about your topic that need to be answered. Copyright © 2003 - 2010 Super Science Fair Projects - All Rights Reserved.
