Kid's experiments don't have to be boring. In fact, many science experiments have been developed so that they are fun and engaging. If you are looking for something to do this weekend, or if you are looking for inspiration for your next science fair project, then look at these environmental science experiments.

Water is a great topic for kid's experiments that deal with the environment. Water is cheap, easy to access and there are a lot of free science fair projects for kids that use water as the key component. Some of the earth science experiments that you can do with water include: testing the pH level of various water sources, testing water for toxins and testing water for sediment concentrations and microbes.

If you are looking for quick kids' science fair ideas then look no further than your backyard. Soil is an element that you can use to conduct many different types of experiments. For example, you can test local soil samples for fertilizers, pesticides, toxins and microbes. You can also try to link compounds found in your soil samples to compounds found in biological elements in the same environment, such as hair samples.

The air is another very accessible earth science element that you can use for projects. The quality of the air can be tested using a smog testing kit, or you can conduct an observational study of the air quality around your school by taking notes about how the air looks each day. For example, Monday the air may be clear but Tuesday the air may be translucent and somewhat gray. Tracking visual trends in your air can help you to identify when the air is the cleanest and when it is most impacted by pollution.

Climate studies can also be conducted as kids' experiments. Climate projects will need to look at a history of climate changes in a single area. This means that background research will need to be conducted. You will also need to take your own measurements of current climatic conditions such as temperature readings, moisture levels, snow packs, etc.

Finally, if you are looking for a more comprehensive project, or a project that looks at the big picture, then you can work on an ecosystem science fair project. Ecosystem projects will need to examine various levels of the system including inert elements like soil and water, as well as biological elements such as primary and secondary consumers. Don't forget about microbes and decomposers, as they both play an important role in maintaining the health and balance within an ecosystem.
