Environmental science experiments look for new ways to generate energy...
Thermal energy science fair projects can be based on ways to generate energy from heat or how to apply these technologies to solving an energy problem. Environmental science experiments can be used to test various hypotheses to find answers to a question or to support your hypothesis. If you are interested in learning more about new ways to create energy then complete one or more of the following experiments. How much pollution does solar energy produce? The first type of thermal energy you can explore with thermal energy science fair projects is solar energy. In this environmental science experiment you will be looking at how much pollution is produced by solar energy. To test this hypothesis you will need to think about all the potential pollution types that can be created by manufacturing solar panels, shipping them, using them and disposing of used panels. Advance this project by comparing the pollution produced by solar energy to that produced by fossil fuels. How much pollution does geothermal energy produce. This is a variation on the above thermal energy science fair projects. This group of environmental experiments science fair projects will look at geothermal energy sources such as hot springs. This is an interesting topic because the pollution created by this energy source is going to leak into the environment anyways. If we are able to harness this power source, how would that reduce the overall tonnage of air pollution released each year? How would this savings be produced? What thermal energy source is more efficient, solar or geothermal? This is another very interesting hypothesis to work with. In this experiment you will need to first determine how you will judge an energy source's efficiency, then calculate the efficiency of each source and finally compare your results. How can this information be used by scientists? How can you use it to develop a more advanced science fair projects? How can thermal energy sources be used to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels? This project idea can either look exclusively at possible applications of thermal energy technology or it can look at how you can use thermal energy to solve a specific problem. It is important that you refine your hypothesis to reflect your specific angle. Can thermal energy be recycled? This is a topic for an advanced science fair project. To answer this question you will first need to determine what happens to the heat as it is used to produce energy. Since, according to the laws of thermodynamics, energy can't be created or destroyed, the energy will naturally transition from one form to another. Your job will be to determine what form it takes on after being used to generate energy and then find a way to recycle it so that it can either generate more energy or be used for some other purpose.
