A more advance project that you could do is to change the width of the blades too. Use the same material for each size. Many people use empty plastic gallon milk bottles to for the blades.

Build and Experiment with 50/100/200 Wind Coils
Faraday's Law of Induction dates back to the 1830s. It is a basic law of electromagnetism that relates to the operating principles of transformers, inductors, and various types of electrical motors and generators. Faraday's law is applicable to a closed circuit made of thin wire and states that:

With the PicoTurbine Windmill Kit V2 you will build a fully functioning, electricity-producing scale model of a Savonius wind turbine. It stands 8" tall and produces between 2.0-3.0 volts which is enough to light up a bicolor LED (included). The LED flashes red and green to show the alternating current produced. The kit can be easily built in less than one hour. With some adult supervision the kit can be built by children as young as 10 years old, BUT for this particular kit we are recommending it for 8th grade thru college.
Included in the PicoTurbine Windmill Kit V2
- 4 pre-wound coils of enamel coated copper wire
- 4 ceramic grade-5 magnets
- 1 (5 1/4) disk
- 1 bicolor light emitting diode (LED) with 2 leads
- 1 (1/2) Phillips head (cross slot) screw
- 1 eye-hook screw
- 1 wooden dowel
- 1 piece of wood about 6 by 6 and ½ thick (for the base)
- 1 strip of double-sided tape
- 1 small piece of sandpaper for stripping the copper wire
- Manual and Template
Its perfect for teaching about Wind Energy in the classroom.
Extraordinary for energy science fair projects, science reports, or just plain fun!

3 packages of 4 Coils each
All the coils are the same dimensions (measure approximately 2" x 1" by 1/4" thick) and reistance of approximately 8 ohms. The coils come preassembled which will save your hours of work.
- 1 package of coils consists of approximately 50 turns of enamel coated magnet wire. It weighs 7 grams.
- 1 package of coils consists of approximately 100 turns of enamel coated magnet wire. It weighs 14 grams.
- 1 package of coils consists of approximately 200 turns of enamel coated magnet wire. It weighs 28 grams (about 1 ounce).

The Cen-Tech Multimeter is excellent for measuring your output of electricity from all of the PicoTurbines Science Kits. It displays AC millivolts, adds another dimension to your experiments, and helps to tune the alternator.
You will get accurate readings for DC voltage, DC current, AC voltage, resistance, transistor test, diode test, and battery test. Easy-to-read 3-1/2 digit LCD readout, positive set selector switch, and 32" leads. Automatic zero adjust Overange indicator 2.5x second sample time Low battery indicator Fuse and diode protected circuit.
