What you need to purchase:

Fish food The size of the tank is determined by the size of the fish. The food is determined by the type of fish you purchase.
What you need to know before purchasing your fish(es)...
- Fish must be 2" to 6" in length: goldfish, bettas, oscars, parrot cichlids, gourami, tetras, oscars and more...
- You can have more than one fish in the tank, but you will need to purchase an inexpensive tank divider (available at any aquarium store) to use during training sessions only. Remember to keep the training equipment in the tank only during the training sessions and remove them when you are done.
- Talk to an expert at a fish store that just sells fish or at least knows what they are talking about. For example, I found out that bettas and cichlids are warm water fish and need to be in water with a thermometer while goldfish are cold water fish. You cannot put a goldfish in the same tank as a betta.

How Does It Work?
You will employ 2 techniques that have been used to train animals - positive reinforcement and shaping. Reinforcement is a term in operant conditioning and behavior analysis for the delivery of a stimulus, (immediately or shortly) after a response, that results in an increase in the future rate or probability of that response. Shaping behavior is an aspect of behavior analysis that gradually teaches new behavior through the use of reinforcement until the target behavior is achieved.
You will reinforce successive, increasingly accurate approximations of a desired behavior. For instance, in training an animal to press a lever, for example, simply turning toward the lever will be rewarded at first. Then, only turning and stepping toward it will be rewarded. With a little time and repetition, the animal will learn to perform the complete behavior to receive the reward.

Science Fair Project Ideas
~ Once you teach a fish to do one trick, will it learn to do other tricks faster?
~ Teach one fish to learn how to do a trick according to the instructions in the kit. Then teach the same fish how to do another trick with the flicking of a light and wand food reinforcement. Will the fish learn faster with two reinforcements?
~ When you teach one trick to one fish in a tank, will another fish learn to do tricks by watching the trained fish?
