The best popcorn science fair projects will not only explore how popcorn pops, but how this process can be applied to various fields of science. To get you started below you will find five different food experiments that you can complete. Use these experiments to help you learn about the science of popcorn.

The first best popcorn science fair projects that you can complete will look at how popcorn pops. In this experiment you will examine the composition of the popcorn, including the parts of the corn kernel and its moisture content. The best part about this experiment is that you can eat your project once you're done.

The second best popcorn science fair projects that you can compelte will look at the nutritional content of popcorn. In these chemistry science fair projects you will break down the popcorn kernel into nutritional components including protein, fiber, fat and carbohydrates. You can also look at its calories, vitamins and minerals.

The third option that you have for free 5th grade science fair projects is to compare various brands of popcorn to determine which brand pops the most. In this experiment you will use the same popping technique, and popping times, to determine which brand produces the fluffiest popcorn. You will measure your results by measuring the volume of the popped kernels. Which brand produces the largest volume of popcorn per half cup of unpopped kernels?

The fourth option that you have is to determine which brand of popcorn produces the largest popped kernel. To conduct this experiment you will pop several brands of popcorn and then measure the size of each brand's popped kernel. Who has the largest popped popping corn? For a more advanced project you can explore the genetics of each brand's popping corn to determine why some brands have small popped kernels and others have larger popped kernels.

The final project is to evaluate the popped to unpopped kernel ratio for several brands of popping corn. In this experiment you will simply measure out 100 kernels of unpopped popping corn for each brand, put the corn through a popping cycle and then count the unpopped kernels that are left over. You will need to do this experiment more than once and then average your results before you start making comparisons. What did you learn about unpopped kernels and the value of generic brand popping corn?
