4th graders enjoy investigation complex relationship. Look below for what will interest them.
Fourth graders learn on two different tracks at the same time: processes and concepts. For science fair projects that would include: - observation and measuresurement of events, objects, and/or organisms
- classification of events, objects and/or events organisms using 2 or more observable properties; arranging items in serial order (for example, fastest to slowest or least to greatest)
Alternative Energy
- Solar Energy

What 4th Grader's Learn in Science
In spite of the above challenges fortunately, fourth graders begin to find their academic niche. They choose to spend time doing what interests them and where they have the most confidence in their abilities. (sound familiar - they are human!)
- Excellent students will be extremely interested in focusing on the subject areas that excite them. They often devour book series.
- Fourth graders begin to compare complex systems in a complex manner. For instance, they are inquisitive and like exploring changes in the Earth over long periods of time, observing the water cycle, or understanding the interactions between organisms and their environment.
- Students work on science fair projects that include writing a hypothesis (making predictions).
- Science topics that may interest them relate to energy and forms of energy, matter and its different states, and the solar system.
- A teacher who works well with 4th graders take them seriously and support them in offering assignments that are within their interests.
