Power House Experiments Science Kit gives a perfect alternative energy for kids home school experience. With 90 experiments your children will be able to use this kit for a long time, groups of kids can work together on a team, and on top of that it is fun!
Imagine this - you are deserted on a desert island. To survive you must harness the sun, wind and other physical forces. The Power House engages the student in this senario while they build their alternative energy house and perform regenerative energy experiments.
The Power House teaches alternative energy for kids with basic physical science concepts and principles. They learn how to capture and use energy from the wind, heat and light from the sun, and use electrochemical and plant energy. Capturing these forces will show them how to survive on a desert island.

Did you know that hydro power is the most extensively used renewable energy source in the United States? In 2005, hydro power produced 7 percent of all electricity in the U. S. and 73 percent of electricity generated through renewable means. Alternative energy for kids projects about hydroelectric power are a wonderful idea for science fair projects that help children of all ages improve their grasp of physics and of our world in general.
How does a hydroelectric dam work? What principles does it involve? You can teach alternative energy for kids using activities that explore these questions. For instance, a science project can study the water cycle and the way solar energy leads water to evaporate. Then the water condenses and forms clouds; some water from the clouds returns to liquid form and falls to earth as rain. Some of this water is added to rivers, where hydroelectric dams can use it as a potentially inexhaustible source of energy. Making a diagram of the water cycle on a piece of posterboard is a great way for your kids to visualize this process.
Alternative energy for kids can be fun, exciting, and enriching. The hydroelectric dam itself is a marvel of engineering. For a real challenge and learning experience, try building a model hydroelectric dam with all components in place. What a dam does is use the energy of the water's motion and transform this mechanical energy into electrical energy. There are two kinds of hydroelectric dam arrangements - the run-of-the-river system and the storage system.
The run-of-the-river system uses the pressure of water current to move the turbines that generate electricity. A more indirect means to harness water energy is through the storage system, where vast quantities of water are kept in a reservoir to be used during periods of high energy demand. One of the most famous examples of a dam that uses the storage system is the Hoover Dam on the Colorado River. Its reservoir was artificially created; it is called Lake Mead and it is over 110 miles long! Alternative energy projects for kids can focus on this engineering marvel, its history, and how it works.
Here is another engineering challenge that will enhance the experience of learning about alternative energy for kids. How do you enable populations of salmon to migrate upstream a river without being blocked by multiple large dams? Believe it or not, this is a problem that can now be solved. Engineers have developed sophisticated "fish ladders" that allow the salmon to ascend the dam in gradual "steps" - all the way to the top! You can also explore the many options for global warming science fair projects - including the numerous fun energy science projects available.
