8th graders on hand washing health facts can be a great project to jump start your creative juices prior to a science fair. This is a very basic project, but it can be used to help you learn how to conduct scientific research, how to write a report, how to create an effective display board and how to execute an effective presentation. If this is your first science fair, or if you are interested in fine tuning your science project skills, then try this activity.

The first step in the 8th graders on hand washing health facts project is to conduct your research. You may be surprised to learn how many dangerous communicable diseases can be contracted just because one person did not wash their hands. Some of the diseases that can be transmitted because of inadequate hand washing include: salmonellosis, enterovirus, shigellosis, amebiasis, hepatitis A, campylobaceriosis and giardiasis. When conducting your research look for different ways these diseases can be transmitted and how hand washing stops the spread of diseases.

The next step in this medicine health super science fair project is to identify who your audience is going to be. You will need to format your report for your medicine health science fair projects and your science display board to meet the expectations of your target audience. For example, you will need to use very basic language and cartoon graphics if your target audience is young kids, whereas you will need to be more technical if your target audience is science fair judges or teachers.

Step four is to design your science display board. Your display will need to include both text and graphics. Your text will need to provide information about the diseases that can be transmitted because of a lack of hand washing, as well as how to properly wash your hands. Your graphics can be either drawings of photographs of the diseases that you are trying to prevent or of the steps for properly washing your hands.

Step five is to practice your presentation. Your presentation will walk people through the research you conducted, as well as through the steps of how to properly wash your hands. Props can be used to spice up your presentation or you can rely more on graphics, photographs and microscopic slides. If you have access to multimedia equipment, then you can also create a Power Point presentation that includes an audio track.

After you have finished your presentation you need to think about how you can turn what you learned during this project into a winning science fair project. For example, you can use a young scientists club science kit set to explore microbes in the bathroom and see how they respond to various types of soaps. You can also see how many bacteria and viruses are eliminated simply by washing your hands with water. The point of this step is to expand on the work that you have already done. This strategy is used by scientists at all levels, and it is great practice for when you enter the professional world of scientific study.
