Designing dance science fair projects can be a great way to distinguish yourself from the competition. If you are a dancer, or if you simply enjoy the sport of dancing, then consider dance topics for your science fair project. These projects can explore a number of science fields including medicine, physics and even math. The first resource that you can turn to when designing your dance science fair projects is the television set. So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With the Stars are both great programs to watch to learn about dance techniques and mechanics. They are also great programs to watch to identify what happens when dance moves are executed badly. There are a lot of different angles your dance science fair projects can take. The first angle is exploring the mechanics of dance steps used in dance competitions. For example, you can use screen captures of dance competitions broadcast on television to calculate angles and shapes used by dancers. You can then experiment with these angles and shapes to determine if you can create more effective or fluid movements that still fit within the rules of the dance. You can also develop projects by exploring how dance steps impact the body. For example, you can explore how much force is created on a particular body part during a tap dance routine, a ballet routine or during a fox trot. You can also look at the medical benefits produced by dancing such as strengthening muscles, building bones and improve endurance. Your next option is to develop music math science fair projects. Since music is the heart of the dance, you can evaluate different styles of dance music to see what mathematical structures are found within each one. There are several approaches you can take to this angle including examining a single genre of dance music or comparing multiple genres of dance music. You can also search for hidden math sequences in popular dance music. You can also do experiments to determine the value of dance as an aerobic exercise activity. Measure the heart beat, pulse, muscle tone. Does the tempo or beat of a music make a difference on the effect a person's mood? The dance steps? The presentation of your dance science fair project is going to be very important. You will want to utilize both visual aids and audio aids. It may also be beneficial for your project's score if you learn some dance steps to demonstrate to the judges, or have a dancer as one of your visual aids. Be creative and knock your judges' socks off.
