Science fair projects on bacteria in yogurt can be either edible or non-edible so be careful. Food science experiments that look at yogurt can involve making your own yogurt or using yogurt in unorthodox ways. Either way you will have a lot of fun with theses 12th science fair projects.

Test bacteria on any surface with the Surface Microbes Science Fair Projects Kit: after hand sanitizer, hands, disinfectant.. for example. You can use antibiotics to test the bacteria too.

Before you start designing your science fair projects on bacteria in yogurt you first need to understand what bacteria is used and how it effects the milk. A trip to a local dairy is a great way to pick up this information, however, if this is not an option that you have then you can also use a yogurt making kit to learn how the biotics interact with the milk to create yogurt.

After you understand the process you will be ready to develop your science fair projects on bacteria in yogurt. The first experiment that you can conduct is to make your own yogurt. Your hypothesis for this experiment will be that adding specific bacteria to milk will create a chemical reaction that will result in the formation of yogurt.

Plain yogurt can be used to cure a yeast infection. This is one of several tricky biology science fair projects that you can conduct. To test this hypothesis you will want to compare the active ingredients contained in over the counter medication for curing yeast infections to the bacteria/cultures contained in plain yogurt. You can also test this hypothesis by growing a yeast culture and then treat it with yogurt to see if it will kill the colony or at least retard its growth.

Over aging yogurt will make it spoil. This is another interesting hypothesis that you can test. This can be a stinky experiment so you will want to keep a tight lid on this project and work in a well ventilated area when examining your test subject. Also don't eat the yogurt that you make in this experiment because it could be hazardous to your health. Instead determine if it has spoiled by smelling it and testing its consistency.

The type of milk used in making yogurt will impact its taste. To test this hypothesis you will need to make yogurt using a variety of milks, for example, cow's milk, goat's milk and sheep's milk. You will need to taste your yogurt samples to gather your data. Not a bad way to earn an A in science class, right? Have fun with these experiments and feel free to modify them and advance them to make them your own.
