Ideas for medicine-health science projects that explore suntan lotion pH...
Skin care and UVA/UVB protection are topics that we hear about on an almost daily basis. If you are looking for medicine-health science experiments for your science fair entry, then consider creating suntan lotion pH testing science projects. These projects will explore pH levels and their relationship to the effectiveness of your sunblock. Below are several sample projects and topics that you can use for your own projects. The first suntan lotion pH testing science projects that you can complete will simply test the pH levels of various suntan lotions. To complete these one day simple science fair projects you will need pH test strips and a pH level color scale. You can purchase the ph test strips at your local drug / pharmacy store. They are very inexpensive. To test the pH simple dip the tip of the strip in a suntan lotion and compare the color that develops to the pH scale. The next step up in suntan lotion pH testing science projects is to compare the pH levels of different sun tan lotions. There are several calculations that you will need to do for this project. First of all you will want to determine the average pH level for suntan lotions. Next you will want to compute the standard deviation of pH levels. Finally you will want to identify the the mode, median and mean pH levels for your suntan lotion samples. Which suntan lotion has the highest and lowest pH levels? The third chemistry science fair projects that you can complete using pH levels of suntan lotion is to determine if pH level affects the effectiveness of the sunscreen. In this experiment you will need several volunteers, a sunny day and several varieties of suntan lotion. Assign each volunteer a sunblock and have them apply it to their exposed skin. Have your volunteers spend about a half hour outside in the sun. When they come inside see whose skin was protected the best. The fourth project idea that you can complete is to examine how the pH level of suntan lotions will impact the overall health of your skin. To begin with you need to determine what the average pH level of human skin is. Then determine the average pH level of suntan lotion. When combined how does the pH level of suntan lotion affect the pH level of your skin? Is this good or bad for your skin? Now that you have several ideas for suntan lotion pH testing science projects, you are ready to come up with your own project ideas. To start with you can simply expand on one or more of the above project ideas. Your second option is to come up with a completely unique project idea. Finally, your third option is to look at more pH projects and expand on one of those projects. Remember, that the best science fair projects are creative, innovative and topical.
