Fun Project Ideas for You!
When we have to create middle school science projects, lesson plans or science ideas many times we get in a quandry. Well, it doesn't need to be a science nightmare. It can be a special dream for middle school students and teachers. Topics can range from biology to chemistry to math; easy, elementary education, in the classroom or out. Whether it's students ideas or the teachers suggested project; whether it's an academy or a charter school or homeschooling; whether Christian or public, there are plenty of middle school projects to choose from.
Once you decide on the category, then you'll know what resources and materials are needed for the project, and where the project can be completed. The experimental project is one that is most demanding but also, most rewarding. It explores the idea of "what will happen if..." If I take one thing and change it somehow--add something or remove something, what will happen? The experimental project uses the scientific method noted before of question, idea and experiment. What would happen if manure is used on onions? One set of onions has no manure=the controlled set; one set has manure=the experimental set. Watch and note! Descriptive and building middle school science projects are just as rewarding. Anything about science, any topic, any research is all noted and displayed, possibly on a display board or in the case of a building project, in the object itself. Discuss the science topic with parents, other students and teachers, and record their thoughts and ideas in a creative manner, such as pictures or graphs. In most descriptive and building projects there will be no experiments because there is nothing to test. However, displays and display boards are winning ideas. Middle School or Elementary science fair projects display boards are a wonderful way to attract attention at science fairs. Consider the colors and the layout of the display board. The title and the question should be front and center in a large, bright font. Use brightly colored pictures and/or photographs to show your experiment or science topic. Have a model displayed also. For example: if you asked how second hand smoke effects the lungs, you may have model of a lung on display, and your pictures may show lungs before and after.
Building a telephone or a morse code telegraph are some simple projects that are learning experiences to see how far we've come to today's wireless cell phones and internet communications. There's no end to the topics and ideas for middle school science projects that will set the 6th, 7th or 8th grader apart from his younger fellow students, and result in excitement for the life of science.
