Molecular biology and microbiology science fair projects are a great way to step up to the plate and hit a home run at your school, state or the national science fair. However, while these science experiments tend to do well at science fairs, they generally take more prep-work and research, especially in regards to proper handling of microorganisms and your microscope. After gaining these skills, you will then be able to create a microbiology science experiment that will thrill your audience.

Molecular biology and microbiology science fair projects may sound intimidating, but they can actually explore some very ordinary items. In fact, you are surrounded by potential microbiology projects. You just need to know where to look.

The first place you can look for molecular biology and microbiology science fair projects ideas is in the kitchen. Yeast, for example, is a very cheap and easy item to examine. For example, you can examine how heat impacts the speed at which yeast multiplies, you can examine how sugar impacts how fast yeast multiplies or you can explore how impurities in your mixing bowl impacts yeast's ability to multiply.

Kitchen microbiology experiments can also examine the effectiveness of disinfectants. You can design an experiment that examines how quickly a traditional disinfectant works compared to a modern disinfectant, you can examine how effective disinfectants are at killing bacteria or you can compare various cleaning products to see which one works the best for various types of contaminants.

Your home and school are both great places to find inspiration for microbiology experiments. Simply examining the microorganism count in various locations at school and at your home can be very interesting. You may also want to examine how mobile microorganisms are, by first disinfecting an area and then contaminating a small region of the test area with chicken skin. Test the area surrounding the contamination zone every 15 to 30 minutes to see how long it takes for the bacteria from the chicken skin to migrate away from the skin.

Putting together winning microbiology science fair projects does not have to be difficult. All you have to do is look around you for inspiration for your molecular biology and microbiology science fair projects.
