Tips for winning science projects and experiments...
Science fair projects 1st place winners don't happen by chance. There are specific project characteristics that winning science projects and experiments have. These characteristics include innovation, imagination, practicality, relevancy and interest. Include these things in the design of your science fair project's design you could walk away with great prizes. Students have placed 1st with these science kits...
The first characteristic that science fair projects 1st place winners have is innovation. Innovation in a project's design means that you not only solved a problem in a unique way, but that you used unique tools and thought processes. Innovation is a great way to quickly improve the potential score your project will get. The second characteristic that science fair projects 1st place winners have is imagination. Imagination and innovation go hand in hand. However, what makes them different is that imagination generally applies to the creativity of a project, while innovation tends to apply to the problem solving aspects of the project. You can add imagination to your project by thinking outside of the box and by having a little fun with your project's design, execution and presentation. Practicality is also an important part of great science fair projects. The value of a science project is related to how useful that project is. For example, a project on crytal growth is interesting, but it really can't be applied to solving a modern problem. However, a project that looks at recycling water using solar power can be used to help solve the current water shortage problem that most of the world is facing. The relevance of topic to your project's experiment is also important. For example, music math science fair projects that use experiments that don't use math and music to solve the hypothesized problem are not topical and will be scored lower than if music and math were both used to solved the hypothesized problem. The key is to make sure your experiment is focused tightly on your hypothesis. The final aspect of your project that will determine if it is a winner or not is how interesting it is. Interesting projects will grab a judge's attention, make them think about your topic and make them say "Wow!" In order to accomplish this you will need to find interesting ways to test your hypothesis and interesting ways to present your findings. For example, using multimedia components during your oral presentation is a great way to add interest to your project's design.
