Psychology science fair experiments explore human behavior...
Cultures around the globe use cosmetics. Some cultures, like Western cultures, use cosmetics as an every day beauty enhancer, while some cultures use cosmetics for ceremonial or ritual purposes only. If you are interested in makeup then cosmetics are a great topic for your science fair project. This is because there are a lot of different science experiments that you can conduct that look at how cosmetics impact human behavior. Science fair projects cosmetic ideas explore a lot of different psychological issues related to the use of makeup. The first set of psychology science fair experiments that you can work with deal with how people respond to different types of cosmetics. For example, you can see how someone's perception of a person is dependent on the type and amount of makeup they use. In addition to examining how people respond to makeup, you can also choose from science fair projects cosmetic ideas that deal with what motivates people to wear or not wear makeup. For example, you can look at cultural influences, personal identity issues, age issues, family issues and gender identification issues. If you decide to create a science experiment that looks at the motivation behind wearing makeup make sure you research the history of cosmetics, including the prevalence of men and women using cosmetic products to use as your baseline data. Another angle your science experiment can have is how makeup or cosmetics change a person's perception of themselves. To conduct this type of experiment you will need to talk to people who wear makeup and ask them questions about when they started wearing makeup, why they wear makeup, how they feel when they wear makeup and how they feel when they aren't wearing makeup. If you want to take this experiment to the next level consider conducting an experiment with a group of students who normally wear makeup which has them not wear makeup for a week. At the end of each day have them record how they feel about themselves in a journal. Analyze how their feelings changed or stayed the same during the experiment. If changes were noted then compare the final self perception of the test subject to how they said they felt with and without makeup during your initial interview. One of the strategies for winning a science fair is to create a science fair project that is both unique and relevant to current problems or issues. Cosmetic experiments, like the ones mentioned above, can meet both of these criteria. This means that if you find an angle for your cosmetic experiment that is interesting, unique and relevant to your life, then you could very well take home the blue ribbon, scholarship money and other great prizes from your local, state and national science fairs.
