Psychology experiments explore handwriting analysis...
Science fair projects on handwriting can reveal a lot about your test subjects. These projects can reveal information about their personality, about which hand they favor and about their mood during their writing session. If you are interesting in psychology experiments then this is a great topic for your to explore. Below are five experiments that you can complete that will examine handwriting and its connection to psychological phenomenon. Handwriting style can be used to predict if the writer is left or right handed. This is the first hypothesis that your science fair projects on handwriting can explore. To test this hypothesis you will need a group of students that are willing to contribute a handwriting sample. Each student will need to write out the same statement and inform you whether they are left or right handed. Your job will be to examine the handwriting samples and look for traits that are common for lefties and traits that are common for righties. The faster a person writes the more handwriting mistakes they will make. This is an interesting hypothesis that you can test with science fair projects on handwriting. To test this hypothesis you will want to have students write at different speeds. You may want to use a video camera with a time counter display. This will allow you to review the writing session and determine the writing speed for each sample in words per minute. You will then want to examine and evaluate each writing sample for handwriting mistakes. How can you use this information? For example, you can use this information to evaluate the haste in which a message was written. In criminal investigations this may indicate that the message was not premeditated. A person's personality affects their handwriting style. This is a good hypothesis for medicine-health science fair projects. To test this hypothesis you will first need to learn what has already been discovered about the link between personality and handwriting style. You will then need to set up your own experiment. For example, you can have your classmates all submit a sample of their handwriting and then have their closest friends tell you about their personality. You can then use this information to find correlations between handwriting characteristics and personality. The size of a person's handwriting is an indicator of their personality. For this hypothesis you will need to clarify if you think that large handwriting is a sign of an outgoing personality or an insecure personality. You can set up your experiment to answer this question. You can also set up an experiment to determine if small handwriting is a sign of an introverted personality or a conservative personality. As you can see there are numerous hypotheses that you can test on this subject. A person's age can be determined from their handwriting style. This hypothesis is based on the fact that handwriting styles taught in school changes and evolves over time. This means that an age range should be determinable by the style of a person's handwriting. This is an interesting and advanced project idea that has the potential to win a science fair. To get the best results you will need a rather large sample population to work with, and you will need to have test subjects from as many age categories as possible.
