You've heard the expression "book knowledge" and how sometimes, it's just not enough? Well, especially when it comes to science. Books are a great source for learning, even for getting directions on how to conduct experiments and build projects, but when it comes to Earth science, there's no better place than your own backyard. Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz learned this, and with some easy to follow instructions, we can too. The earth is our own special science store, so let's go shopping with earth science fair projects.

It's time for the school science fair and the chosen topic for the project is Earth science. Great idea! There's no better place to learn a lesson than in the dirt beneath our very own feet. Or the water that floats us. Or the air we breathe. All of these, Geology, Oceanography and Meteorology are parts of Earth Science. For your earth science projects, pick the area that is most exciting to you, the one you have the most questions about, and dig, splash, breathe (puns intended).

Let's begin with Geology and Oceanography, both of which are great science starting places for kids in any grade. Simple and fun kids science fair projects include building an earthquake model to learn what causes them, or building a volcano to discover how lava forms and flows. Both are elementary earth science experiments. Conduct research to determine why ocean water is salty, or how the moon affects the tide. Search the Internet and library books for more project ideas and experiments with easy to follow instructions.

Taking our Earth science research into Meteorology we find projects like discovering the different types of clouds and how they are formed, or building our very own tornado in a bottle. The study of rainfall patterns and even preserving snowflakes can make cool projects with fun experiments that can be conducted by turning your kitchen into a science lab. Most of these projects can be completed with supplies found in your cabinets and at little cost.

Another topic for earth science projects that is of great interest in everyone's life today is the subject of global warming. Interested researchers and dedicated developers will be needed for years to come, and there are thousands of energetic enthusiasts in all grades of our schools. There are thus many opportunities for renewable energy education in the classroom. The science curriculum is really all about life--science itself is all about life, and finding fun projects for kids is what will lead them to being excited about science as a whole, whether Earth science, Biology, Chemistry or Astronomy.

So, whatever topic you choose to explore for your earth science projects, that topic is vital to human existence. All science is necessary to continue life because science is present in all parts of our life. The world is our shopping mall, and shopping or even browsing in these stores will truly be the wind beneath your wings. So grab your shopping bag and be prepared to bring home the world.
