Elementary Science Experiments Keep Learning Fun
Kids have a natural thirst for knowledge. They want to know how things work and why the world is the way it is. As a teacher, your job is to provide the knowledge that your students need to develop into successful scientists. An easy way to do this is to complete as many elementary science fair experiments with no chemicals as you can during the school year. Here are some fun elementary science kits that kids really love and yet they learn something in the process...
Elementary science experiments for classroom demonstrations and labs usually are going to be fairly basic. Budget restrictions limit what materials and ingredients you will have available to use in your experiments so you will need to look for basic experiments. While there are a lot of basic elementary science experiments that you can select from, you will want to focus on the experiments that are age appropriate and that are exciting or fun. An important thing to keep in mind when developing science project ideas for classroom demonstrations is that the classics still rock. Simple, yet effective, classic science experiments that examine the chemical reactions created by household ingredients effectively teach basic science concepts while entertaining your students. You can easily find basic science experiment instructions online, in teacher science supplies and in science fair kits. Science fair projects need to be slightly more complex than classroom demonstrations. Judges don't want to see students merely replicating classroom demos. Instead they want unique experiments that explore basic science concepts. Judges aren't going to expect 3rd grade science projects to be complex nor are they going to expect the students to follow all of the steps in the scientific method. However, they will be looking for a well constructed experiment, a nice presentation and evidence that the student understands what their experiment tested. Some of the science projects that are appropriate for 3rd graders include:
As students get older teachers need to build on their science knowledge base and challenge their minds with new science concepts. 4th grade science projects need to reflect what you are teaching in the classroom, however, you may also want to include experiments that explore topics that are in the news as well such as renewable energy education in the classroom. Some of the science fair and elementary science experiments with no chemicals that you may want try out with your 4th graders include:
