Fuel production and energy production are crucial issues in today's world - as energy is the master resource; it powers virtually every vehicle and appliance we use. A fuels energy produced science project will enable you to look at the various ways in which energy is harnessed and to compare and contrast the various aspects of each of these ways of obtaining energy.

  • Many fuels are derived from plants. That's right - plants. Some of those plants died millions of years ago, and their remnants became oil or natural gas. Others are grown and used to make biofuel such as ethanol. What extraction and refinement processes are needed to make fuel from oil or from plants such as corn? What machines are used, and what are the costs of each method?
  • You can do some science research to find out about emerging technologies with regard to these fuels and how they might affect the future of energy production.
  • Fuel cells are another intriguing and emerging means of energy production. A fuel cell utilizes an electrochemical process to generate electrical energy - as opposed to combustion (otherwise known as burning). What are the susbtances combined in a fuel cell in order to generate electricity? Your fuels energy produced science project can study fuel cell technology and focus on the mechanisms involved, the chemical aspects of fuel cells, the environmental effects of this technology, or its cost-effectiveness.
  • A school science fair project could focus on the various everyday and commercial applications of fuel cells. Did you know that fuel cells can be used in cars, landfills, telecommunications, forklifts, cars, buses, and even scooters? What recent developments have aided the spread of fuel cells? Where are they likely to appear in the future? A fuels energy produced science project of this sort can lead you to explore the effects of this technology on anything from trains and planes to computers.
  • Heat is a byproduct of energy, but it is generally desirable to minimize it - as heat is wasted energy, and excess heat might damage the devices that generate energy. Your science project can focus on the ways in which particular energy generating devices are designed so as to minimize overheating and energy waste. On the other hand, you can also find out about devices such as the heat pump that actually harness heat in order to generate energy. Geothermal energy is particularly promising in this respect.

There are thousands of distinct possibilities for a cool fuels energy produced science project that is likely to get a great response from teachers, judges, and fellow students.
