Here's a really neat idea for a science project, especially for those middle school kids: build a hovercraft. That's right, a hovercraft. Are you bored of just sitting around? Try hovering around. This is a great hands on project and provides an eye-catching science fair display. Hovercraft science fair projects also mean a lot less talking at the fair, because they depends more on showing. Of course the research and report will still need to be completed, but the display can be total demonstrations, even letting others try out the hovercraft.

To create and demonstrate hovercraft science fair projects there are some safety rules to follow:

  • Always have an adult around for supervision and to help collect materials.

  • You'll need two people for the demonstration-one to hold the hovercraft and one to hover.

  • You'll need lots of space--to hover around in coz' it can move pretty fast.

  • It's best to always wear a helmet during the demonstration.

Once you have all these things in place, you can move forward with the hovercraft plans.
  • Maybe you don't know how to build a hovercraft and display a hovercraft because you really don't know what it is or how it works. Well, it's pretty easy as well as fun. Especially the activity of experimenting--seeing if it actually works. Does it truly hover above ground? A hovercraft is an air cushion vehicle (acv) that moves around on a stretch of compressed air directly above any surface, whether it's land or water--or your basement floor. Some hovercrafts can go as fast as 80 miles per hour. See why you need the helmet?

The quickest and easiest way to create hovercraft science fair projects is to use a model. These science kits make the whole process ultra simple. They have all the engineering plans and materials with step-by-step, easy to follow instructions. With all the resources at your fingertips, it will be no time at all and you'll be able to create fun science projects that everyone will want to hear about and try.

Another resource for building your hovercraft is using a science book that gives pictures of all your supplies and what the finished project should look like when you're all done. Here's all you really need to get started with this cool science fair project idea:

  • Cardboard, Pencil, paper and glue

  • Thread spool

  • Balloon
  • Once you have all your supplies and helpers you're set to go. With good directions, you'll be ready to take off in a few hours. Just fire her up! So to speak--there's no fire and no engine, just a lot of air--hot or otherwise. Depending upon the age and the grade level, the hovercraft's can get pretty sophisticated, but still easy enough to complete when doing middle school science projects. And once you're done with all your work, you can relax and hover a bit. Sit back and enjoy a glass of lemonade on your very own, self built hovercraft. You earned it! There's no shortage of fun to be had with hovercraft science fair projects!
