So you've conducted some fun science research or some creative science experiments. But the science fair or science project does not end here. Your teacher might require you to give a presentation on your findings. How do you do a school presentation that conveys what you've learned and impresses your teachers, judges, and peers? Let's take a look at some helpful tips.

  • Visuals always help, especially when they are important to understanding the concepts involved. Always show any diagrams, charts, or learning devices that were important in the course of your project and will help other students understand your findings better. So the first answer to the question "How do you do a school presentation?" is, "Include important visuals!"
  • Articulation is a major presentation skill. Remember that you'll be evaluated not only on the quality of your project but also on your ability to communicate it. Therefore, rehearse your presentation several times before you give it. If it helps, memorize some or all of what you are going to say. Make sure you speak clearly, audibly, and confidently. Make eye contact with the audience and try to minimize the amount of reading from your notes, posters, or screen.
  • Using technology can greatly enhance your presentation, but make sure you use it wisely to supplement and not replace your personal contribution. A Power Point presentation or a presentation built into a website can be wonderful at conveying major points, interesting statistics, and engaging visuals. But remember that what you say has to be somehow different than what is on the screen. If you just read off the screen, your listeners would not need you, would they?
  • Creative writing can go a long way to enhance your presentation quality. Write out some kind of outline or script and think of witty, clever, or particularly memorable ways to convey your points. If you get your audience to laugh or have "Aha!" moments while they learn, they will be left with a much more solid impression of your presentation.
