The important part of any science project is the excitement of learning something new, but it has to be something that a kid wants to learn or there will be no excitement and that will show everywhere. Here are some ideas for starting science projects for middle school. Once the decision has been made what filed of science interests the student the most, the next step is to develop the hypothesis, what they think they already know. For example: the way bananas ripen depends on the environment they're in-this is the science of botany; or if you want to clean pennies, the best thing to use is lemon juice--this is chemistry. The belief that the biggest magnet will be the strongest is in the field of physics. All of these science project ideas were found on the Internet. Another good way to research science fair projects on the Internet is to look up science kits. There are a number of sites and literally hundreds of kits in all areas of science. They come with complete instructions and some even include all the materials needed. They explain and diagram how to conduct the experiments and how to compile the data for reports and even how to assemble the science display board for a science fair. Kits are easy and fun and help kids in all grades to have fun with science. If the student doesn't have access to a computer at home they can visit the local library and not only use the computers but also research in the science books. They'll find as many cool experiments there as anywhere. They can learn how to build a pendulum clock or a model airplane. They can learn about the planets and stars or how to conduct weather experiments. All from the pages of a book--the good, old-fashioned way--reading. Not only are science projects for middle school about conducting experiments but the process also helps students learn how to organize themselves and what they've learned by keeping a journal.
