A drums sounds science fair project can be loud, fun, musical and educational. You can also explore a variety of different science concepts with your drum projects including sound waves, the speed of sound, musical math and how people respond to drums. The follow sample noisy science projects and experiments will provide you with a few ideas for your own unique drum science fair project.

The first drums sounds science fair project that you can complete is to explore the basic components of a sound wave. You can see what a sound wave looks like by using a computer program that displays sound waves, or you can complete this experiment. Place several marbles on top of a drum head. Then hit the drum head with your drum stick and see how the marbles move. Notice how the shape of the movement changes when you beat on a lower toned drum. Explain your results.

The second drums sounds science fair project that you can complete is to determine how fast sound travels. To complete this experiment you will need digital watches that are synchronized, two people, and a drum. Have the person with a drum stand at one end of the school yard and the second person stand at the far end of the school yard. Beat the drum loudly at the top of a minute. The person at the other end of the school yard will note when they heard the sound of the drum. To determine how fast the drum sound traveled all you need to do is first determine the lag time between when the sound was made and when the second person heard it, and then divide that time by the distance between the two people.

If you are interested in music math science fair projects then consider completing this experiment. Explore how math is used to compose basic drum beats. To advance this project try to determine if there is a mathematical formula for figuring out the most appealing drum beats for different types of music.

The coolest science fair projects with drums are going to be based on how people respond to different drum beats. For this experiment you will need a drum, a drummer, music for basic drum beats, a heart rate monitor and several volunteers. Each volunteer will have their resting heart rate taken at the beginning of the experiment. They will then be exposed to a drum beat. Their heart rate will be taken after listening to the rhythm for about 30 seconds. Note how their heart rates changed if at all. Your job will be to determine if specific beats have an impact on heart rates and what impact they have. For example you can see if Rock 'n' Role beats increase heart rates.

When designing your drum science projects try to think of unique ways to test science concepts with a drum. Try to avoid using experiments and topics that have been completed by hundreds of students before you. You will have a better chance of winning your science fair if your project is unique, fun and interesting.
