Basketball science fair projects are just what the doctor ordered for sports fans. These projects come in all shapes and sizes, and most can be completed in a matter of hours. So grab your gym stuff and hit the courts to complete your sports science fair experiments.

There are a lot of different angles your basketball science fair projects can have. The first project you can experiment with deals with nutrition. In this experiment you will want to look at how hydration levels impacts sports performance. To complete this experiment you will want to recruit several of your friends, who are all about the same size and that have the same physical fitness level. Assign each athlete with a hydration level. For example, one person won't drink water while playing a game of one on one, one person will drink a squirt of water every 15 minutes, one will get water every 30 minutes and one will only get water at half time. Make sure you measure out each drink so each player receives the same amount of water. Look at how water levels impact their energy level and ability to play basketball.

Another option for your basketball science fair projects is to see how sports drinks affect a basketball player's performance. To complete this project you will want to use a variety of sports drink brands. This project will use water for the control experiment.

If you are interested in medicine, then you can examine how the design of a basketball shoe affects sports performance. This experiment will require you to manipulate elements of a basketball shoe like the cushion it has, the flexibility the sole has, the design of the lacing system and the height of the shoes' "top." You can even experiment with the fit of the shoe by using different sized shoes.

To find a science fair project that deals with basketball is easy to do. You can even use yourself as a test subject. For example, if you want to explore the psychology of the game you can videotape yourself watching a basketball game that involves a team that you are passionate about and then tape yourself watching a basketball game that doesn't involve a team you like. Then compare your reactions to each game. Was there a difference? Was the severity of your reactions different when you watched a team you liked compared to when you watched a team you didn't like?
