Basketball sports science fair projects can be straight laced, fun, active or even funny. This article will focus on very funny science fair projects. You can use any of these projects to develop your own projects, or you can complete them to learn more about the science concepts the experiment explore. Have fun and a have a good laugh!

When we exercise our bodies produce waste products. One of these waste products is methane gas. One option that you have for your basketball sports science fair projects is to look at how much methane gas is released by players during a game of basketball. This project will rely heavily on the self reporting of the players.

Sweat is another byproduct of exercise. You can develop several basketball sports science fair projects that examine sweating. For example you can develop chemistry science fair projects to gage how much players sweat by examining the dampness of their basketball clothes. You can also create an experiment that looks at how sweat leads to the development of body odor during a game of basketball.

The third option that you have is to chart the eye movement of a basketball player during a game. To develop an experiment to learn more about this, you will first need a hypothesis. One example is that basketball players use more eye movements when they are standing still then when they are moving. Your findings will shed light on how we gather and process visual data during group activities. How can this information be used to develop more effective game strategies?

The fourth hypothesis that you can test is that squeaky shoes squeak because of trapped air between the sole of the shoe and the gym floor. To test this hypothesis you will need to examine the airflow between the sole of the shoe and the gym floor. Notice how the tread design impacts how squeaky a shoe is. What other factors play a role in how squeaky your shoe is? How can this information be applied to sports shoe designs?

A fifth idea is to compare deodorants and see which one stops the odor under intense athletic conditions!

Why does a basketball smell? This hypothesis question can lead to several experiments. The first experiment will look at the materials that the basketball is made from. You will want to look at the gases released when that material is heated up as it is handled and as its surface struck by the gym floor. Besides heat, what other factors may lead to a basketball smelling? Think about sweat from the player and other contaminants.
